Develop People Through Education
The best investment I've made as a leader is in my team's education.

The best investment I've made as a leader is in my team's education.
Give engineers access to good courses, books, and workshops. Watch what happens. They get motivated. They bring new ideas to the table. They level up faster than you'd expect.
Developers love learning. It's in their nature. The best ones are obsessed with it. Your job as a leader is to fuel that obsession, not block it.
Make learning a team activity
Individual learning is valuable. But team learning is transformative. Run a book club. Do a lunch-and-learn. Let engineers present something they just figured out.
When people learn together, they build a shared vocabulary. They align on patterns. They challenge each other's assumptions. That's how teams go from good to great.
The ship metaphor
There's a quote I come back to often:
"If you want to build a ship, don't herd people together to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea."
That's leadership in one sentence. Don't just assign work. Create desire. Inspire curiosity. Give people a reason to care about what they're building.
Leadership is earned
You don't get to walk into a room and declare yourself the leader. That's not how it works. Leadership is something people grant you because they respect your judgment, your character, and how you treat them.
Invest in your team's growth, and they'll invest their trust in you. That's the deal.
